So you get the condo unit, you pay the down payment, you already moved in, what’s next?
Condo living is far different from traditional way of house living. There are a lot of factor you must consider when you start living in the condominium. Remember that you and your neighbors are just a wall apart. You use the same utilities, the same common areas and being known about the proper manner is essential. With that, I want to share to you the basic and ethics of condo living. I divide the topic on two parts. Let get started!
1. Respect common areas
Common areas are the places that are commonly share and use by the unit owners. These may include the corridors, elevators, lobbies, and hallways, amenities like the pool, gym and gardens. These areas are not an extension of your unit. Be sensitive on the cleanliness as well as the orderliness of the said areas. Do not sweep the dust out from your unit into the hall way (this is acceptable on a traditional house living) and leave it to the janitors. Do not leave the trash in the parking slot just because you know that the janitors will take care of them. Hand them properly. Do not leave your shoes, slippers, socks along the corridor. Never ever vandalize walls, elevators, furniture and other things that are out of your nit. They are shared things by the unit owners. Observe the policies about using the amenities and never treat the lobby telephone as your personal one. The rule is simple; anything that is out of your unit belongs to everyone. Bear in mind to respect these areas. If you show respect for these, people, your neighbors will also respect you.
2. Tone the volume down
Always remind yourself that your separations to your neighbors are just a wall less than a foot. Meaning any noise you make can be easily heard on the next unit. It is a good practice to tone down the volume of your conversation whether you are inside the unit or walking in the corridor or lobby. The key thing here is no avoid loud noise. Make sure that TV volume is on the right level. You don’t have any idea what kinds of people are sitting behind your walls so better tone things down. Make sure to close the doors while you are watching TV or playing music.
3. Where and where not to play
Most condominium community often limits the space for children to play, but this does not mean they can go outside and play along the corridors. Talk to your kids and tell them which areas they can meet friends. Tell them to respect the development. Never encourage or ignore acts or vandalism and loitering. Your guidance is crucial.
4. Do not share the smell of your meals!
Do not open the door to let fresh air flow in after or while you are cooking fish or bagoong. You have your own windows and electric fans for that. While letting fresh air flow into your unit is a must, your neighbors should not have to go to work smelling your fish viand. Keep the aftermath of cooking inside your unit dude.
5. Respect building security, administration and maintenance personnel.
Inside the condominium, these folks are your best friends, especially during the times of need. Bear in mind what you demand from them. Security guards should not have to carry your grocery all the way to your unit. They are not your houseboy. The on only things they are responsible with are the security! Nothing more nothing less! On the other side, janitors are not your personal housekeepers, who are obligated to clean after you. The building administration is responsible for every aspect of the property where your unit is in. Admin personnel are your main sources of information for policies, rules and regulations. They help you in addressing complaints and concerns. Just be courteous and respectful to them.
Watch out for the second part! There are still five to go! Hope you are enjoying!
